Excuse me, i'm having some difficulty breathing.

Imagine Crows Zero set in 1980 but centered around a group of idiot rockabilly revivalists and the walking perfection that is Matsuda Shota. Matsuda Shota, high school gangs, 50s greaser hair, gratuitous fight scenes, blood stained white shirts and one shot that I am hoping was an intentional homage to Johnny Depp in Cry Baby. Could this be perfection?

Well, not quite... the plot is severely lacking, the editing, script and soundtrack are all a little questionable, some moments are as jokey as hell and the sentimental sub plot has no real pay off but due to the aforementioned plus points, there shall be no complaints here.

Wait, if I can just make one complaint, lets re cut this movie and edit out every 'comedy moment' of Shirota Yu's (or some other insignificant character) plasticine face over acting and replace those with some more scenes where Matsuda Shota is getting beaten up and/or beating people up and/or making angry delinquent growls of rage and distrust whilst scowling, pouting or sucking his teeth. Or how about just Matsuda Shota doing anything, why not put him in every frame. WHY NOT?

Also, anyone (and this is more rhetorical than usual) know why I missed Joe Lynn Turner off my map of hair metal? I don't really remember the thought process there but I thought I was being pretty thorough at the time. Apparently not, I don't see Grahem Bonnet on there either... wait, maybe they are those two arrows that go towards Rainbow.... no that's Dio and Blackmoore, i'm going to look into it. OK, this doesnt make any sense, Bonnets under Alcatrazz and then there's an arrow from Rainbow to his name , but the wrong direction? what does that mean?! i'm so confused. I can't even understand my own artwork.

Everyone's favourite Emotional Teen Pop Band Teen Top (more often heard pronounced adorably as TIN TAP) have comeback with a CRAZY song.

They were "Crazy" (♫ "i'm so cra cra crazy... clap cla clap clap clap crabman") in 2010, and they're still "Crazy" (♫ "ok, you got me going crazy, I don't know what to do") in 2012. Good to know.

I like to imagine that if someone were to press play on this song on a stereo/boombox/iphone anywhere in S.Korea at anytime, a line of boys would instantaneously run in, take position and perform the entire routine with maximum effort and perfect choreography, before bowing politely and going back about their regular business, adjusting their soft knit sweaters, straightening the sections of hair they arrange specially in front of their perfect ears, pushing their spectacles up on their noses, and sipping the froth from their cappuccinos. eye smiles all round.

Also, don't teens today seem to have an interesting idea about where their 'heart' might be located?!

and yes, Teen Top is certainly the most unfortunate and inappropriate name for a k-pop boyband, especially for a woman over 25 to admit to liking, but hey, nothing is more unfortunate and inappropriate than their official You Tube channel name TeenzOnTop. yep, for real.

Last night for no apparent reason I was suddenly overcome with a desperate urge to have a Crispin Glover movie marathon. I guess these things just happen on a lonely Thursday night.
Luckily my dear friend Charlotte Puppy Percival was on the other end of Twitter to link me to clips of Crispin in Friday the 13th part 4. Good times. If only there wasn't a few thousand miles between us and we could watch Willard or better yet, Rivers Edge.

I really wanted to watch Rivers Edge.

I wonder what got me thinking about it...
Was it because I was just suddenly struck with the remembrance of how much I love Crispin Glover as Layne, possibly the best Glover ever?
or was it all just because I was wearing a black ribbed knit hat yesterday?

BEAST AIRLINES ( kpop in 3D!! )

Another flailing kpop post...

So, I live in Japan and Japan is crazy for k-pop,
but we can't afford concert tickets, (let alone compete for the possibility..)
however ... we can (just) afford cinema tickets!

BEAST 3D - WELCOME BACK TO BEAST AIRLINES!!!
So my first kpop concert is at the cinema... it's good enough for me!

To attempt speak objectively here for the benefit of any curious non k-pop fans or people who have no idea who BEAST are....

BEAST (or B2ST if you prefer) are a 6 member boyband who debuted in 2009 on Cube Entertainment. No one in S.Korea really cared about them too much to start with (everyone was most likely distracted by MBLAQ debuting simultanously and Lee Joon lifting his shirt up all the time...) and they didn't get much recognition for their first few singles (even though they're all pretty great songs, yes even Bad Girl!) and they also received some stick for being amalgamated from a bunch of k-pop rejects (Hyunseung was almost in Big Bang, Doojoon was almost in 2PM, Kikwang had a solo career that kind of went no where...) but when they finally won some music shows, and starting appearing on more TV shows then everyone noticed their "above average singing abilities" their "phenomenal dance skills" and their hard work and determination etc etc etc. Personally, before Infinite were on the scene then I would have definitely considered BEAST to have the tightest/coolest choreography in the world of K. Singing ability? that's not so important to me, I hate ballads (the usual place to demonstrate this coveted 'singing ability') but I will admit that a BEAST ballad isn't always so bad... not that it's good... its just, no so bad... and also whilst I find Yoseob to be an irritating, Thomas the Tank Engine faced, creepy little gremlin who is the direct opposite of 'cute', I am grateful of his singing prowess to hold those songs together and I have learned to tolerate him. From a fan perspective, BEAST just seem like really nice boys, raised well, grateful for what they've been given with a genuine affection for each other, and endearing personalities. I also think that the fact that they are on Cube Entertainment (which seems to be one of the few k-pop companies that doesnt seem to be completely batshit insane) helps a great deal, it feels like they get treated better, and they are happier in their work because of this. Regardless of everything I just said, every BEAST single has been brilliant, and their videos, just like their hair, are oh so oh so glossy.....

and if you want to see them being their adorable idiotic selves on a variety show, and introducing their (questionable) talents, then please direct yourself to youtube and then reward yourself with 3 hours watching related videos.

Swoon DooJoon. Fun times.

I've been listening to a whole lot of Acid Black Cherry lately and I am impressed with pretty much the entire back catalog. Maybe i'm just easily impressed with Yasu's voice, Yasu in general, flamboyant 80s guitar solos, crunching pop rock riffs, occasional lounge style numbers, limited poignant j-rock use of strings and homosexual love story themed music videos... who cares why, but i'm impressed, and I haven't even got through all of Janne Da Arc yet (A.B.C is the solo project of Yasu from Janne Da Arc who went on hiatus in 2007 to each pursue solo projects, therefore, when I get some time, 7 more years of Yasu's voice and pop rock is waiting for me).

Acid Black Cherry's discography is extra fun because about half of their recordings are cover songs which means I get introduced to a whole history of amazing j-pop songs ...

異邦人 (Ihoujin), originally by 久保田早紀 (Saki Kubota) in 1979 and then covered at least 16 different times (according to wikipedia) including the wonderful Acid Black Cherry version in 2007.

I was already preparing an A.B.C song for my karaoke repertoire, and I had a handful of alternatives for next in line, but now i've heard 異邦人 and yikes I want to learn this one too!! Sorry "100% Yuuki" (Genji or NYC version...) but you might have to wait a little longer before I look at those lyrics!

I've been having the biggest pet cravings lately. Oh it would make me so happy! but i'm really not in a position to take on a pet right now, not even a goldfish, so I was thinking about when I could find some time and go to a cat cafe to get some pet love but in the meantime the universe decided to gift me some puppy strokes...

There was a beautiful almost fully grown Golden Retriever puppy tied up outside of the 7/11.
We went to pet him and he was super friendly and happy to have some attention (and he totally charmed us with THE softest ears) but then decided it would be fun to chew on the sleeve of my oversize knit sweater and try and play 'tug of war', when I finally got my arm free from his mouth he clamped on to the bottom hem and started tugging that instead, so I was wrestling with him in full tugging mode, wriggling away excitedly, tail going crazy, trying to unhook the wool from his teeth and by this point we were kind of laughing hysterically, so I finally get free and say "bye puppy!" and turn to walk almost colliding with this guy who I then realise had been standing there watching the puppy playfully maul me and my outfit for at least 5 minutes, who then strolls over and unties his dog. Yep, owner was just standing there watching in silence, probably frozen in fear at the prospect of having to interrupt the two foreign girls who were potentially trying to steal his dog. oops. It was worth the embarrassment for those velvet ears.

Then, as Friday nights often go, you try and quickly drop round some birthday cheese and grapes to your buddy and you soon find yourself watching The Lost Boys on VHS and playing iphone scrabble with someone in the same room as you.

And who can guess what the birthday cake remains have been carefully constructed into the shape of?

so, i'm still alive. I'm a survivor.

did you notice i've been backdating posts and trying to fill in a gap the size of November?
Well sure its kind of futile, but I prefer it that way than having a gap in my history recorded forever or for however long it is that computers are going to last...

anyway, this post right now, its real time.

Its been hard times at Bissoux HQ for a while now and this time yesterday I was pitifully sad and sobbing onto my emergency BFF iphone chat, but LOOK AT ME NOW! photobooth ! GIFs ! blog posts that aren't 20 days late !

and tomorrow i'm going to get up, work really hard at not being sad, work really hard (at doing work), backdate some more blogposts to fill in that November gap (revel in the fact that many of them will be ikemen themed) and run headlong into my future hopes + dreams with arms outstretched and a sparkling smile on my face ... or maybe i'll just get some pancakes or something,
but that'll be a nice start right? small steps.

and guess what?

I've decided that December isn't canceled after all.

It's not often you sit down on the floor of a nightclub right? A disgusting floor, where drinks are spilt, sweat is dripped and hundreds of dirty feet have danced in years worth of grime to the surface. Sure, this is Japan and I guarantee this place has been cleaned more thoroughly that 95% of England but this is a rainy night in Shinjuku and the floor is glistening with murky wet residue, so why the hell are me and 60 or more other people sitting on the floor?

All for the love of KPOP.

It's DJ Hyuk's KPOP Night 14, an anniversary spectacular with a printed itinerary that is meticulously adhered to. An hour of kpop DJs, an hour of obediently sitting on the floor to be rewarded with spectacular kpop dance cover performances, unexpected live ballads (thanks but no thanks) and birthday cake presentation complete with "Happy Birthday to You" sung in Korean by a room of Japanese (and us), another hour of DJs with the dance floor packed and everyone facing in the direction of the small (barely risen) stage where random nightclub goers will force their way to the front and spontaneously burst into perfect dance choreography, sometimes in collaboration (but never with more than the relative correct number of group 'members' on stage - so KARA can be no more than 5, GIRLS GENERATION never quite made it to 9 but i'm not sure the stage could have handled 9 anyway...), and then the first hour (or was it half an hour that kind of felt like an hour..) of the 2011 kpop countdown best songs as voted by the clubnight regulars online, more than a hundred people SCREAMING at a screen projecting kpop videos. Just a video, a video we've all seen before, not a real life kpop performance, just a video we've all watched a few too many times streaming in the privacy of our homes, put into some fairly non important ranking but somehow more exciting to watch than ever before and now with some kind of collective hysteria the room bursts into impromtu fan chants, attempted korean sing-a-longs or just pure unabashed screams and swoons of delight. OMG IT'S A 2PM VIDEO OMG I LOVE 2PM OMG IT'S TAECYEON HE'S MY FAVOURITE I'M GOING TO SCREAM OMG OMG OMG etc etc More incredible lip sync perfect unison dance cover stages, more DJs, more dancing, a hardcore A-Pink male fan performs a perfect routine to the crowd, strangers come together to make the correct number of members to do KARA full justice, a beautiful young man (who we may or may not have bookmarked for attention and joked that we wished to see him 'perform') interrupts our day dreams to demonstrate his knowledge of the full dance routine for Miss A's 'bad girl good girl', more videos, more sitting on the floor (my legs can't handle it the second time, so I stand further back where the arm flailing and more ear piercing shriekers are more apparent) and then its the floor show... drag queen... men in hot pants revealing a little too much, women screaming at boys, men screaming at girls, men screaming at boys... (the unisex toilet gave the clue that this is a gay club shortly after we arrived) fun fun fun ... WOW.

So what if sitting on the floor was gross?
So what if the MC was funny but talked too much and you could have done without 50 comments for each video being read out whilst you were losing all feeling in your legs?
So what if they were playing some questionable balladsville and unwanted 90s k-pop that wasn't even Shinhwa?
So what if that sweet boy performed not one but TWO ballads live in front of you with the veins bulging from his neck whilst he warbled you to tears (not in a touching way)?
So what if there wasn't even enough room to dance (unless you were breaking out on to the stage ready to debut your full routine)?
So what if they didn't play MBLAQ "Y" even when you've specially worn your MBLAQ "Y"-esque paneled leggings?
So what if everybody there is mysteriously over 25 - 40 looking?
So what if its a gay club and even if you managed to spot a dreamboat in the (slightly underwhelming) crowd, the chances are he's gay too?

This is a night for k-pop lovers, no room for beginners.
Roll on January so we can experience these wonders again.

Take my money, i'll happily pay to stand in a room and watch other people shout SIMPLE SIMPLE at a Super Junior video.

and I'm more than happy to pay to see the highlight of the night, all girl BIG BANG dance cover group "BBB" lip sync through 2 songs, including a live version, PERFECTLY. Their "GD" and "T.O.P" were flawless. FLAWLESS!

So today the Guardian's 'new band of the day' today (in a somewhat inaccurate article featuring a 3 out of 6 correct line up) is the awesome Trippple Nippples !!!

Somehow on moving to Tokyo I managed to wind up making friends with a whole bunch of amazing people almost instantly and then their friend which brings in a whole other wave of awesome people including some of this band. So, the night before Halloween I went to see them play in a disused hospital in Hatsudai, as part of TokyoArtGig2. I just managed to catch their set before the onset of a wave of my 'lonely on Halloween' based depression caused me to freakout and want to leave the place immediately (the spooky disused hospital with no lights and hundreds of people in costume really didn't freak me out at all, F.Y.I). Sheer luck and good timing meant I lucked out with a good view balanced on a hospital gurney with 4 other people... dangerrrrr.

Trippple Nipples are FUN FUN FUN, you can catch them in China + USA (if you happen to be in those places) in December and January I think, dates and info at their facebook page.

Oh, also earlier in the night I got an "MRI" scan from shibuhouse (apparently my brain is empty and white) and walking around the hospital, when you could escape the crowd in the basement, was pretty cool. emo freakouts, not so cool.

Yesterday

I gave my visiting guest a Harajuku tour which included the discovery that the Justin Bieber 'special' shop isn't closed down after all...

Bieber curiosity aside, I managed to restrain myself to visiting only a couple of idol shops (and resisting any purchases) and after we had gorged ourselves on delicious chocco banana crepes, overdosed on Disney techno, frills & bows and taken in all the multicoloured Harajuku super kawaii we could handle (and a final detour facing the challenge of resiting the charms of the most alluring shop staff in the whole of Tokyo..) we headed to ...

Lock Up VS Brutal Truth at Shibuya-O East.

Of course, there is a perfectly neat circle pit, and of course, there are fresh from work salary men in their shirts and slacks in the circle pit.

Japan your combination of order and enthusiasm continues to blow my mind.

As if the contrast of girls day sweets and shopping in Harajuku to a loud dark testosterone fest in a dark Shibuya venue wasn't surreal enough, it's always nice to find yourself eating ice creams backstage with a member of Napalm Death, a Visual Kei producer, a handsome businessman and 3 of your UK friends who barely know each other.

How do you end a day like this? Go to 'Don Quijote' (for those unfamiliar with this mecca of shopping insanity: imagine Woolworths on acid crossed with a retail park and an indoor market, in one store) buy matching Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma slippers with your housemate and then proceed to stalk a pair of beautiful young men around the kitchen appliances section until your 3rd friend gives up all hope of your sanity and watches your forlorn expressions as the beautiful men make their purchase and exit leaving you swooning, literally, into your conveniently placed overstuffed cheap foamy pillows (which you will later discover offer you a neck injury and a worse nights sleep than the clump of feathers in a bag you'd been managing with until now).

In other news, I have an iPhone <3

and since my last update I also have acquired a chair, a duvet, a scanner, some old magazines, a Christmas themed blouse, a Yamamoto Yusuke trading card and a poster of Gackt-sama on my wall.

Yesterday I walked to Shinjuku (5.2km apparently) bought the scanner from Yodabashi camera. I was assisted by the slightly hunched scanner expert who assured me i've bought a 'freedom scanner' "freeeedom!" and the overly genki English speaker who apparently loves Top Gear. I can't convey to you how much I hate Top Gear, I didn't convey it to him either I just smiled and nodded and said "so you like cars huh?" but then he started telling me that Jeremy Clarkson has a handsome voice and thank heavens the cashier was ready or I was about to lose it and shatter this kids whole ideal of the polite residents of "Grand Britania" (as he likes to call it).

So anyway, have scanner, can scan,

And hey you know what's weird? I have barely taken (or had taken) any photos of myself since I arrived 3 weeks ago... Jeeez I think my narcissism took a heavy blow.

I'm alive!I have an apartment and as of a late night expedition through the streets of Koenji and some willing friends I now have a desk... things are getting there... slowly. I don't have a phone yet and I have no regular access to the internet which is kind of driving me insane. After a terrifying experience at Bic Camera (electronics store) yesterday I think I have ordered the internet... but I could have been signing my life away and I would only have those 2 complimentary bottle of hand soap to show for it.Much more to follow soon, as and when I can impose on friends internet some more or afford the price of delicious ginger based beverages to enjoy the free wifi at Wired Cafe in Harajuku. I miss you internet.xxx

I leave for Japan in less than 5 days, i'm still packing the stuff that gets left behind and haven't even started on the stuff that's coming with me for the next year.....
and did I mention I still have to do my tax return?!

The Home of Metal Exhibition finished on Sunday and today was spent dismantling the shop. It's sad it can't be a permanent exhibition, but could any staff ever be subjected to 12 tracks of Judas Priest live on a loop PERMANENTLY? Three months of it has permanently killed 'Livin' after Midnight' for me.

My apologies to any loyal blog reader currently curious or frustrated at my lack of content.

This is going to be a week long heart attack but just you wait, when i'm all set up in Japan i'm going to make it up to you. I'm going for a blogging 'Level Up", who's with me?

If I get a moment i'll try and fill in some gaps, post some pictures, write some informative blog posts about something pointless... but if i'm AWOL for a while, its just me moving continents.

Until recently, I didn't get it.
I understood that Gackt was pretty awesome in a statuesque, stoic and unexpectedly hilarious way and I understood that he has the face of a beautiful man/woman/Final Fantasy character and that he makes fairly dramatic million album selling j-rock/pop music (that I didn't really pay any attention too before). I understood all of that - and that's why he has millions of fans, but I didn't get why people thought he was attractive, like why they consider him a supreme total all encompassing mega babe? All across the world wide web i'd seen fangirls going nuts for him, and on Japanese TV i'd heard entire audiences of females cooing in unison at a simple smirk or hand gesture, and yet I, queen of the crushes, was oblivious.

I suppose it can't help when you're trying to make a judgment on someone and you don't really know what you're dealing with, I mean, can I develop a serious crush on a slightly gender ambiguous, ageless vampire who looks like he was constructed by machines in a factory on a different planet where he then went on to become King? could you? My google image searches (in a quest for a resolution) always threw up way more questions than answers...

I suppose the other factor that was going against Gackt-san was when I started mainlining Japanese TV about 2 years ago, he really wasn't looking his best. He kind of had this whole "sassy auntie" vibe going on, mousse set curls, rectangular rimless specs, I think there may have even been bootcut jeans - I really don't want to remember it too vividly. (F.Y.I "sassy auntie" seems to be a recurring problem in hot East Asian male celebrities from time to time, please refer also to Auntie Kame, Auntie Tegoshi and even Auntie No Min Woo) On top of this, the other era of Gackt that I seemed to have the most viewing experience of was the period in early 2000s when he was a regular on the KinKi Kids show Domoto Kyoudai where he mainly sat motionless throughout, lying in wait to occasionally blow everyone away with a choice personal anecdote (always delivered deadpan) or an unexpected collaborative music performance, or forced to participate in a ping pong doubles match ... and so on. The problem with this period is that Gackt seemed to be suffering from slight early 80s David Bowie Yuppie syndrome, iced hair and bad suits... and again with the rectangle glasses, so again, he didn't really strike me as the man of my dreams. What a fool I was! I watch these back, having seen the light, and now Auntie Gackt is more beautiful than ever, Salary man yuppie Gackt is hot, the ill fitting suits are now viewed as a considered fashion statement, I get it, I get it all. GACKT IS HOT.

I don't want this to be as shallow as a "GACKT IS HOT" post, its supposed to be a Gackt is incredible and when I finally realised and acknowledged the depths of his awesomeness, that is when it finally clicked and I saw the appeal and was hit with the overdue effects of his hotness. I fought it at first, I didn't really understand what was going on in my head, but within hours it had snowballed (and I had spread the gift of Gackt to my dear brain twin Jessica Jane) and there was no denying it, I think I am in love with Gackt.

My days are now littered with flashbacks when I am struck with a vivid memory of a Gackt news story or an appearance on TV that I noted with mild interest and my previous responses of "LOL, Gackt", "Thats so Gackt" and "what a weirdo, he's pretty great". Just to give you a few examples: Gackt making his own costume and turning up in full cosplay to promote an event for a character he was the voice actor for, Gackt's appearance on VS Arashi with a complete disregard for the concept of what 'sports wear' might be and his apparent love of Ohno Satoshi to the extent of bestowing him with one of his own (kind of hideous) gothic jewellery creations, Gackt is in a Hollywood film (as yet to be on general release) where he co stars with Josh Hartnett and Woody Harrelson (yes, really), vintage Gackt sitting motionless with a smirk as pro wrestler Antoni Inoki slaps the Kinki Kids round the face in what may just be my favourite titled youtube video of all time, Gackt 'casually stating'“Recently, I’ve thought about getting a helicopter license. I think it would be interesting if I came down during one of my concerts in a helicopter”, Gackt's biography mentioning that can see spirits ever since a near death experience where he nearly drowned in the sea in Okinawa aged 7, Gackt giving a surprise performance at a school graduation just because he felt like it, Salary man Gackt advertising energy drink, Comedy Gackt advertising a LoveFilm type DVD rental by post service, Gackt confessing he has a big crush on Hyde from L'arc en Ciel, Gackts apparent love of puppies, Gackts duet with fellow known crazy DAIGO, Gackt's comedy skit extra from one of his concert dvds where he dresses up as a baseball player, a scuba diver, a nurse and a schoolgirl, Gackt's live band being called 'Yellow Fried Chickenz" with the added gimmick that they are supposedly a band of foreigners (despite all but 1 or 2 being Japanese), Gackt's fanclub members being called "Dears" (official name), Gackt's birth year officially being 1540 (although recently, for no reason at all, suddenly he's apparently revealed he is 37 and not 471 ...), Gackt's house having 7 floors, no windows, a lobby, a dojo, and a waterfall in his bedroom and his ridiculous 'wishing well'esque bathtub, Gackt rides a rollercoaster without cracking a smile (or scream), Gackt holds a 'men only' concert for his fans and performs shirtless for the most part.. need I go on? I feel like I could go on all day.

Isn't it weird that my brain kept a mental note of all of these gems? it's as if it knew that this was going to happen. Like so many before him, I think this was a case of a slow burning crush just waiting for the day when I was finally ready to admit it. The tipping point, which was particularly unlikely considering his haircut (a blonde buzzcut with some lines razored in the side?!), was his recent appearance on Arashi no Shiagaye when I basically threw down my last threads of self restraint and declared "that's it. I want to date Gackt." I'm not sure where it happened, was it Gackt teaching them how to exercise properly (whilst demonstrating his seemingly bionic limbs) ? was it his smooth car seat adjusting demonstration reaching across the lap of his date (in this case, a flustered Ohno Satoshi)? or his ordering desserts to suit specific types of girls and delighting in girls who eat clumsily and struggle to keep their cake on their fork? No, I don't think I even needed to get that far, it was probably around 10 minutes in (after the introductions, the nail file omiyage, the awkward practical joke and the preaching of the importance of men having well manicured hands). It was at the point of Arashi asking Gackt if there was any truth in the rumour that "he never sleeps alone"... "True" says Gackt, "I hate it", you see to Gackt "a bed is like a chopsticks case" that needs two chopsticks, bed is not a place for sleep, it is a place to "NURTURE LOVE". Well, there must be times when Gackt-san is alone right, so what happens then? "I don't sleep" oh of course. Or he sleeps on the sofa between doing work, and never more than 2 hours a night.
I think he probably NURTURES LOVE most nights to be honest.

Follow this up with the other facts - he only eats bread when he's in France and he thinks cream puffs are pervy. I was sold. I think it also helped that the day before I watched him perform on a music show in a full length purple wig and black samurai outfit as his vocaloid avatar / character "Kamui Gackupo" from the Gakpoid vocaloid programme (what's a vocaloid? I hear you cry). He performed "Episode 0" which was written by a fan who won a competition to compose a song using vocaloid Gackt and if real Gackt liked it enough he would include on his next album, which he did.

Perhaps I should address this current ridiculous haircut concept with the razored in X and the sandy tones, but do you know what? for the first time in the history of crushing I think I reached the "it's fine, he can do whatever the hell he wants, he is exempt from my scathing haircut critique" at the exact same moment that I was like "OFFICIALLY CRUSHING", special rules for a special guy right...? Also when we team this new look with the eyepatch its really quite dashing.

So for well over a month now I have been majorly crushing on Gackt, I just can't stop thinking about what it would be like to be picked up at the intersection in the 'Red Comet' and taken for dinner where I can eat my pasta clumsily, get confessed to with flowers I picked out for someone else and taken for some tea and cake at an executive looking hotel lounge. Maybe I can even make it as far as making the faux pas of trying to bathe in the water feature in the bedroom like some other girls have, and maybe just maybe I could be a chopstick one day... (a paragraph entirely made of references to his appearance on Arashi ni Shiyagare, in case you're lost and confused).

Now i'm officially a fan, i've started my research period, as happens with most of my obsessions, once I take an interest, I really take an interest, and I take it seriously. I've been begun working my way through Gackt-san's career, chronologically, and am currently lost deep in the first chapter of his musical endeavors. I already have so much that i'm bursting to share than i'm going to roll this over into another blog post, but just so that you can prepare yourself, you might want to gather together a bucket full of ice, a stiff drink, some clean underwear, an extensive make up palette, some ruffled shirts, historical costume and perhaps some pvc or leather wear for afters ... just a suggestion.

I haven't heard you mention this guy and yet he is obviously famous eye candy in the East. Are you slipping up here, or keeping him in the shadows for your own personal crushing before any of the other girls get there beady little eyes on him."

The longer I leave it the harder it gets to start writing again, At the moment it’s pretty miserable that I don’t have time to blog, and I don’t have time to draw. In fact all I have time for, is moaning that I don't have time for anything. When I do have some time its disappears into a void of procrastination, panic and exhaustion. I have less than a month to prepare to emigrate with only a 23kg suitcase. In the meantime (when not at work - and sometimes there too) I seem to be whiling my time away in an unproductive and obsessive Tokyo job & apartment search, and some added tumblr sprees of ikemen escapism.Ultimately i'm left frustrated, mildly frantic and always with a new list of 100 more things I think I should be doing. I just took a break from writing this to go make myself an ice cream sundae, did I mention the non stop eating?!

Actually the first line of this post has been saved as a draft since sunday, which was a really lousy day. I reckon someone punched the moon again because at least 3 dear friends of mine also had a lousy day, not cool Sunday, not cool.so horrific Sundays experiences, overeating and hey I haven't mentioned my heartbreak in a while... but you know what? the only way is forward right. I've booked my plane ticket so October 1st i'll be leaving whether i'm ready or not. All this aside, the only way to break this cycle of hardworking procrastination and some form of reverse laziness is just to do something. I'm going to sit here and force myself to write a load of backdated blog posts and hope that the feeling of accomplishment will wash over me and motivate me to new soaring heights of productiveness. please.

Also, the deal is I don't get to watch Episode of 7 of Ouran High School Host Club until there's been some progress made.

This isn't the Super Junior post that I promised (that had a few setbacks) but I had to rush this one through, priority delivery from U-KISS. 

Oh U-KISS, as much as I did enjoy the "bran new kiss" and 0330 I am just so happy that you went back to what you're best at, and that is... ridiculous electro, auto tune, jarring soundbites, insane over production, lots of random english, terrible rapping (although it is getting better... maybe), repetitive dance choreography and dance moves that look like no one is quite sure how to do it right and lots and lots of guyliner.

Lately kpop has been so busy trying to do something different but you have steered clear of the non summery summer songs and the western cloned club bangers and just went for that pure K-POP song structure insanity, like only U-KISS can.

I'm looking back so fondly on Manmanhani and Bingeul Bingeul right now... oh the good times I had.

They have done me proud. Considering they're still often the punchline of jokes (including my own) when you take a step back, its really a pretty impressive back catalog (don't forget Shut Up) seriously, every one was a winner to me, 0330 took some getting used to but it was fine for a change, they really havent disappointed once (aside from the whole member swapping thing... ) and this is perfect.

I may have made a statement earlier today in an email to JJH that I was "over" Eli. This is some pretty bad luck considering he broke his hand at the start of the Shut Up promotions, and much as I really do appreciate an injured boy... (and I may or may not have a very creepy video stored somewhere of Eli with a sling... but lets move on)... I would have certainly preferred to see them all do this dance and not have to go with that awkward thing where you make someone sit in a chair at the side of the dancing looking like a total dweeb (sorry Minho, sorry Donghae..). They have apparently changed the choreography to avoid further injury to the other members : /

FURTHER UPDATE!

so, I am still loving "Neverland" but now i've listened to the album... TOO MANY BALLADS.  There are glimmers of the afore mentioned U-KISS which I adored, but ultimately... too many tracks I want to skip.  That's about as in depth as my analysis is going for today, i'm not in the mood to try and listen with an ear for constructive criticism, instead I just want to risk a knee injury and flail my arms around to Neverla-a-a-a-a-a-and a-a-a-a-and. I guess a part of me truly does miss that BRAVE SOUND "uh ohhhh, uh ohhhh". 

PS. Hoping for a photo with crutches, although knowing Eli it will most likely be ruinied by some atrocious denim ware and an unwanted sleeveless shirt.  Is it too much to ask for a suit and crutches?

Smackdown, Raw, daily goings on in S.Korea and Japanese entertainment news tv shows, interviews, videos, 2PM Show, Infinite Sesame player... just a few of my weekly viewing commitments. Then there's the 'want to watch!" currently Ouran High School Host Club and the Japanaese remake of "You're Beautiful" - "Ikemen desu ne" ... and so so many more... so so many....

and now it seems I need to add ~~TNA~~ Impact Wrestling or whatever the hell its called to my list of things to watch.

I had thrown TNA overboard after my last few attempts to watch all featured 90% Hulk Hogan being a douchebag and 0% Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley had a broken collerbone but i'm not taking that as a good enough excuse. Also there were always some kind of super aggressive parking lot beatdown with a lot of cusswords filmed on 'shakeycam'. It was pretty boring.

When Shelly came back, Sabin injured his knee so I still have to wait for MCMG but lately they've had Brian Kendrick and Shelly feuding for the X-Division title and now 'Austin Aries' in the mix, I think they actually have a proper X-Division again?! can we get Jay Lethal back yet? can we? can we?

This past week my brother and his girlfriend have been visiting from Japan. I couldn't make it up to Hokkaido on my trip last time so I hadn't seem them both since 2009!!

It was kind of a weird week with the riots, and a weird week for me besides that, but it was so great to spend some time with them. I'm sorry I wasn't very げんき! ごめなさい, でもちょたのしかったです。

Just so you all know, in case you missed it, ... my brother is really awesome (and not just for fulfilling my request of bringing me Galbo Balls and a magazine of pretty Japanese boys AND the new Sakanaction single ♥♥♥) He writes a blog here which is particularly relevant if you like eating and you live in Sapporo, but even if that does not sound particularly relevant there is other stuff there too, like about comics and Kitkats and stuff.

FYI. Stratford-upon-Avon (tourist hotspot of the UK) on a sunny saturday afternoon in August = not that fun, although the play we saw (which wasn't Shakespeare) was pretty great. If you're interested, The City Madam is on until the 4th October. There's nothing quite like some moral teachings about greed, consumerism and astrological skepticism led through a comedy written in 1632...

The first time I ever saw them, was on VH1 back on the days of Birmingham Cable Television circa 93? 94? I fell in love. Rockabilly revival era gets a bad rep sometimes these days but to me its the 1950s meets 1980s in a perfect mix and Brian Setzer is the King of 'cool cats'. I'm a fan to this day, but this song especially, I'll always be obsessed with. I can't believe I never thought of this before but I should sing it at karaoke!

I was too sad to write yesterday. I went to sleep sad, I woke up sad.

To the people living in this country this news was instant, unavoidable and everywhere. I, like many others found myself watching the horror unfold in real time.

I wanted to say some detached statement like “I’m so glad I’ll be leaving this country in less than two months” and whilst it’s true, and I was somewhat cynically already using that statement for other reasons, I don’t want to leave this country crashing and burning in chaos. I also don’t want chaos swept under a blanket and ignored. People lost everything, their lives, their homes, their businesses and their sense of security. It is heartbreakingly tragic to watch your country destroying itself.

As the riots and looting spread to more areas of London and broke out in Birmingham on the second night, the severity and absurdity of the situation became even more devastating. Reckless destruction and looting is not a protest, it is not a demonstration of anything other than stupidity and greed. Some are ignorant, some are opportunists while others seem to have deluded themselves into believing that their actions are somehow standing for something.

I cannot condone the despicable actions of any of the looters, arsonists, vandals muggers involved, however I am trying to empathise with the minds of these people. A disillusioned youth I understand, frustration, confusion and wanting change, I understand these things exist, this was never, never the way to go about things. To act like this out of boredom and greed is inexcusable.

The actions of these people (youths, men, women) are disgusting, the damage they have done is still unimaginable, yet I worry most about how it got to this point. How there is a whole generation of seemingly apathetic hooligans, who at the most basic level, don’t know right from wrong?

I hope these people look at the power they had, the scale of this horror that they achieved and then I hope that they eventually realise and understand that they could have done so much more without breaking a single pane of glass. How is it possible for people to rally together and cause such destruction instead of using that power for something good? I just realised as I typed that the looters, rioters and vandals were not “together” they were a mass of selfish individuals.

As for the “where are the parents?” question, even if we take the most rose tinted view (or a murky brown tint as it would relatively be) and assume that perhaps some of the parents were at work trying hard to earn money in a minimum wage job in the late shifts, or we’ve all seen reality TV shows with terror teens pushing the very limit of disobedience, that can only account for some. How did the people end up like this? all those children and teens, all those men and women, not a handful or a hundred but thousands of youths that committed theft, vandalism, breaking and entering and crimes too numerous to mention. I’m not putting the blame on the parents I’m putting the blame on everyone, the whole country. Incidents of Police misconduct and discrimination, Government cuts that take away services, a society that lets them get to this point of rage - or this point of stupidity, a society that has provoked an attitude from a different class or minority or race or generation and the individuals themselves that have perpetuated this attitude and disaffected state of mind. I do not support the current government of this country, and whilst they can be blamed for the circumstances, the handling of the situation… the messy clean up operation (I don't mean superficially) they cannot be responsible for the actions of these peoples, the freedom these individuals have that they choose to manifest and express by picking up a brick and throwing it at the window of a mobile phone shop.

It terrifies me.

I generally don’t even watch the news, I keep up with what’s happening in the world, I read the headlines and try to read up on what I consider might be important (to me personally and as a citizen of this planet) but largely, I avoid it. I find it fundamentally depressing and miserable, and there is a difference between reporting information and exploitation, sensationalism and wallowing in repeated views of the same ugly scenes. I’m not overly sensitive or squeamish, I’m not in denial about the hideous crimes that man can commit, I’m a pacifist but one who likes horror films and has a morbid interest in serial killers and true crime, but I think its very important to choose when to take in this kind of negativity and the state of mind you are in and to limit it. If I subjected myself to news updates 24/7 I don’t think I could drag myself out of bed in the morning. Other people might be different, maybe I am too sensitive, but this week things were just too much.

I’m not against “the news”, it is important, and this is the 21st century so understandably things are expected to be real time, constantly updated, ready to access at all times. That doesn't mean I want or need to be connected to it 24/7. I don’t want to constantly be reminded of all the awful things that are happening in the world every single minute of the day, I’d rather concentrate my energy on more positive pursuits, so perhaps its strange that I have suddenly chosen to write about this when I leave other tragedies unmentioned. In this instance, I couldn’t escape it, its happening right on my doorstep.

The immediateness of social networking has played a huge part in this situation. From the opportunists, looters, gangs and teens who orchestrated this mess and supposedly used Twitter and Blackberry Messenger to arrange meeting points, times and targets to the instant news flow provided direct from eyewitness citizens who beat the media to the latest happenings in real time, but most noticeably to me is the impact is has to hear friends and acquaintances reporting the news along with their personal fears, thoughts and opinions. I suppose one outlook would be to find it uniting, but I find it distressing, that doesn't meant I don’t want to read it, of course I do – both from concern and curiosity. Facebook status updates and Twitter feeds become the starting points for a forum of public debate, but one that is unmonitored and rife with flippant remarks and comments. I’m not sure 140 characters is going to convey your full standpoint on the situation and more than likely will either leave you sounding like Tory fascist or some kind of pacifist hippy. Too many times this week I found myself unable to look away from clumsy arguments and defensive self-righteousness and Internet fallout. I suppose this scale of national terror brings out the best and the worst in people and our social networking habits make it all to easy to ‘speak’ before we think.

I feel even more sorry for saying it than before, especially as there are so many wonderful people here, but truthfully I am glad to be leaving this country. Right now I’m ashamed of it. I’m embarrassed by it. I have a lot of Japanese friends and it is terribly sad to explain that these ‘rioters’ and looters were stealing Iphones and raiding Footlocker in the fake name of ‘protest’. Earlier this year Japan suffered a devastating natural disaster with incomprehensible damage and over 20 000 people dead or missing, homes flattened, possessions lost, food and water shortages and yet there was no looting, no mugging, no inexplicable loss of conscience and mob mentality. We are a country already famed for football hooligans, teenage pregnancy and political scandal, what else do we want to add to that list?

There needs to be drastic changes here and I don’t know what the answers are, or if there are any, but I’m an optimist, we’re not all doomed just yet. In the meantime I’ll take my chances with the risk of earthquakes in Japan. It’s not perfect, nowhere is, but I’d rather live in a country where honestly and self-discipline are encouraged. I just hope England is still standing if and when I ever want to come back.

Finally, not everyone in this country is a complete monster. The people who protected their businesses and others, the people who are helping the police to convict the guilty, the volunteers who are helping to clean up the cities and the millions who are helping in whatever way they can, these are the people who can give us hope and I trust in them that they won’t let this country be destroyed.

For the TL:DR : This week I was sad and sickened by the riots. What the hell is wrong with people?! Something in this country needs to change and I hope it can. I’m moving to Japan.

'Fanzine Frenzy' workshop at Walsall

Yesterday I taught a workshop at the New Art Gallery Walsall, as part of the Home of Metal project and in conjunction with the current Mark Titchner exhibition.

‘Fanzine Frenzy’ was a drop in workshop for all ages as an introduction to fanzines and the chance to produce your own mini zine, or to produce a page to be compiled in a collaborative zine at the end of the day.

Despite it being a little quieter than expected and the participants being a little younger than expected (3 year olds can't really comprehend the notion of self publishing, or photocopying.. or folding... for that matter), it was a fun day and the there was some awesome cutting & pasting going on.

Truthfully, I've been incredibly sad intermittently for 5 days now.

I'm going to pin point the moment when it all went wrong as last Wednesday when I was walking to my exercise class and a teenage girl sprayed me with a hose. I don't mean in a playful way, and I don't mean spray as in a light dusting of moisture, I mean she purposefully pointed the hose at me and shot the full strength stream of water into my face. She was standing at the end of her driveway holding the hose and when she saw me coming she started spraying in my direction, I stopped, waiting for her to stop so I could get by and that's when she just aimed it right at me, and took a step forward and she carried on, I had my hands slightly upturned in a gesture of 'what the hell?!' but I was stunned and couldn't even voice a yell of rage, I walked headlong into the oncoming water to get by, she stopped when I was about 30cm away from her, and said "ooops. I slipped" in a monotone voice whilst her chubby friend cackled at me nervously. I think I managed to say "what's your problem?!" in a tiny voice, really a very lame revenge attack on my part when I was holding a full bottle of water and she was fully made up in some kind of floaty prom dress outfit. It was so surreal, and it was horrible. I was bullied and intimidated by a complete stranger practically half my age in my own neighborhood whilst I was walking down a main road. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT?

The one redeeming factor was I was that I was on route to an hour of hardcore dance aerobics so I was in my own interpretation of "fitness clothes" and the attack on my vanity of being doused in water was irrelevant at this point in the day. Did I look like I was out jogging, on a warm day? is that why she did it? would that make it acceptable? or if I knew her and it was in playful jovial summer fun? SCREW THAT.

F.Y.I universe this is not a scorching 40degrees summer in some warmer climate where we all wear bikini tops and short shorts and have beach parties and spray each other with hose pipes and laugh about it. This is just me (refusing to describe the clothes I wear to work out in) tired after a long day at work and an hours commute back, making the effort to drag myself to an exercise class, walking down a fairly major road in the suburbs of the West Midlands. WHAT THE HELL?!?!

Usually my 'danceaerobics' (brand name that begins with Z that I would cringe to type here publicly) is an undisturbed hour where my brain is so concentrated on trying to not hit the other ladies with my flailing arms in an un-coordinated mess that there is literally no room for external thought, no worries, no sadness, nothing, just the effort of co-ordination and the occasional internalised burst of hilarity of that realisation I, yes I, I am dancing in formation to Ricky Martin and unknown artists salsaXreggaeton mashups and for the most part I am enjoying it. However, last wednesday my routine was fragmented with regular flashes of rage of WHY THE HELL DID THAT GIRL DO THAT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? It threw me off balance, literally, I clashed hands with the lady to my left and shuffled back over to my spot in shame.

Oh, I have not been sad for 5 days just because a teenager sprayed me with a hosepipe, (I got over that about 2 minutes after leaving my exercise class and congratulating myself on a perfect performance of the routine to Shakira's "Waka Waka") that was just the prologue.

I'll spare you the in depth relaying of the real sad. It involves to much over share of heartache and personal emotions and feelings.

I'll stick with the admission that I regularly attend Zumba classes for tonight's revelations. There, I said it.

As for the hose pipe thing, I am purging the event from memory and replacing it with the scene from K-drama masterpiece "You're Beautiful" (myself in the role of Go Minam) where the adorable Jeremy is threatening and attacking Go Minam with a hosepipe out of confusion and frustration whilst coming to terms with the fact that he is crushing on a boy (even though shes obvs a girl...) and this one sided water fight gets broken up by the divine perfection of Shin Woo.

By popular requests I had some digital prints of my Wrestlemania 27 live drawing done.
These are A3 paper size and hand signed & numbered.
There are only 10 of these made !!

I used a new print place and somehow they managed to make it every so very slightly pixelated (if you put your face like a centimeter away from the paper, otherwise its seriously not noticeable - I PROMISE!) so therefore these 10 are going for the super saver bargain price of $14 (its in dollars because I forgot new Etsy lets you change the currency...) so with your postage its probably going to end up being about £10... I hope!!

I also restocked my zines at my Etsy shop but its still pretty sparse since its revival so bear with me and i'll fill it up soooooooon....

DAVE MUSTAINE, Megadeth.

I know its kind of weird for me to term him a dreamboat, that strawberry blonde mane is one of the best in the business but i'm just not that into blonde guys.

.. and besides there is that whole issue - is Dave Mustaine just the biggest jerk on earth, or is he a absolute genius? We'll... I think he's pretty great, and pretty great at being an asshole sometimes too (I think we can partly blame the booze and drugs, and partly blame his charming personality), the guy loves to talk (trash mostly..), and he can sure play guitar, plus the master of self promotion in his Megadeth shirt, Megadeth Guitar... whats not to like? and besides, I like Megadeth a whole lot more than I like Metallica (although I did spend at least 20 years hating Metallica) and by now nearly everyone has realised that all of Metallica are pretty big jerks, except Kirk, Kirk is lovely.

So, it might not be a straightforward crush but he is an 80s metal dreamboat and recently I am addicted to watching old interviews with him (the recent years born again Christian thing isn't so hot, vintage Mustaine only thanks).

First video - Dave telling a story about going to a brothel with Glen Tipton (Judas Priest) is one of my new favourite clips of all time. (you have to watch the obscene "Hard N Heavy" cartoon first.. sorry about that) I can't stop rewatching. I want to make "she took it out, she got it hard, she wrapped it up ....." etc as my ringtone.

Second video - "Don't ever listen to anyone who ever tries to tell you what to do unless they're right" I get the feeling Dave thinks he's always right. Also Jeff Young is a total babe in this too, and Dave supposedly fired him for "thinking" about stealing his girlfriend... at least Dave is clever enough to recognise the competition.

Third video - Dave interviewed by a very polite puppet on Japanese TV. Dave seems somewhat scathing of King Diamond kicking out the members of his band and changing the line up "a foolish move on his part" LOL .... ummm, Dave you fired like a fifty (or 5 or whatever) guys from Megadeth dude!! pot.kettle.black. I'm really glad you never fired Marty though, anyone who fires Marty would definitely be the biggest jerk on earth with no redeeming trash talking qualities. :

I'm going to blame watching Mary Stayed out all Night for making him such and appealing "flower rocker", but please make no mistake, Mary was a FOOL. I was only paying GeunSuk some attention when Kim Jae Wook wasn't in the scene. Seriously Mary, arranged marriage to a super rich super handsome, super considerate, super respectful guy with an amazing apartment and some minor family issues and you choose to hang out with a guy with girls hair who wears a choker. OTTOKAJO!!?!?!! It was like the overlooked ShinWoo (in You're Beautiful) syndrome all over again. I guess its apparent that JGS cannot be defeated, as a fictional character or otherwise. We should just accept it, and move to Japan to worship him as the new King.

And Kim Jae Wook is in the army now... he can't even defend himself - except against the hypothetical impending threat of war with North Korea... I hope not :( Oh god, why do they make them go into the army?!!

I have made multiple updates to my portfolio at BUNNYBISSOUXART.COM recently and I decided to cross post everything here (you might have noticed the onslaught of "look at what I did!!" post last week) but with slightly different photos and slightly less ‘to the point’ descriptions.

I generally don’t like to over do the double posting so my apologies if you regularly check my blog and my site and keep seeing the same things but really, if you like me enough to regularly check both then I think you can probably handle it, its not like I’m auto integrating my updates to twitter/facebook feed giving you a never ending echo of the same thing SAME THING (current pet peeve – people who have twitter just set to auto import their tumblr feed…. or people who have anything set to auto update TOO MUCH or at all in their facebook feed. I DON’T GET IT – WHY ?! WHY ?! Akkk facebook I still hate you… and google+ you terrify me).

Friday Night - Unofficial Cody Rhodes UK Fanclub Meeting.
Saturday - Annual Noonas Know Best pilgrimage to Wolverhampton followed by Asian Culture Appreciation Society Viewing Marathon.
Sunday - Local Shopping Expedition, Vegetarian Roast Dinner option at Chez Mama Bissoux followed by the second night of the Asian Culture Appreciation Society Viewing Marathon.

I was attempting to maintain my good track record but after last weeks overwork-a-thon when things finally eased up, I needed a break. I didn't really get much of a break, but this weekend I most certainly will.... roll on friday...

Tonight was meant to see me getting 10 posts done, but i'm still stuck at the first one. Most likely i'll do them soon enough and backdate the lot.

Here's a few things that I can tell you without blowing my curfew by another 2 hours...

Yesterday I got the nice surprise of genuinely forgetting that I sent myself a package of magazines from Japan via surface mail (3 months ago).

The new サカナクション video is amazing and I like the song a lot more than the last single.

Daigo is still as amazing as ever.

Looks like i've stepped up my 3 hours sleep a night to 5 or 6, but wouldn't 8 just be so dreamy!!
I cannot wait for the imminent arrival of Jessica Jane.

PING PONG PARLOUR

Remember when I was all about Ping Pong the other day?

In the week before the zine festival, otherwise know as the week of minimum sleep maximum work, I got offered a fun job doing some illustrations on giant blackboard walls inside of a “Pop up Ping Pong Parlour” that I couldn’t bring myself to turn down despite the fact that there were literally not enough days in the week.

It was part of a project by Ping! where they set up 52 ping pong tables across Birmingham for the public to play on for free. The Ping Pong Parlour is at 37 Corporation Street and the project is ongoing in Birmingham until the 8th August and is also happening in other cities in the future. I don’t really understand why this project exists, but its nice that it does, all for the love of ping pong I guess….

I mentioned this a bit in this earlier post.

A while back (way, way back), I was commissioned to do some T-shirts designs for a new label called “The Illustrated Mind” which is run by the people behind the T-shirt Boutique “Boy Parker” (Kensington Gardens, Brighton).

One of the designs was a reworking of a really old thing that I wasn’t really keen to see put on a T-shirt but hey ho whatever and the other design was wrestling related and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. I finally received some T-shirts last week so celebrated with some father daughter modelling.

BZF Exhibition at 6/8 Kafe

As another part of the Birmingham Zine Festival I contributed a piece to an exhibition held at the 6/8 Kafe (a lovely new independent coffee shop on Temple Row in Birmingham City Centre) featuring the work of lots of other great artists who are exhibiting or somehow involved with the festival.

My piece was an amalgamation of the various flyer and poster designs I had done for the festival publicity, using the characters I had created put together in a final zine party scene. This is an original drawing which I then hand coloured with (hopefully) fade resistant pens. The exhibition was originally scheduled to be on display from the 2^nd -10^th of July (I think...) but has been extended so you can still go in take a look and enjoy some tea/coffee/cake/consumable of your choice whilst you’re there.

BIRMINGHAM ZINE FESTIVAL ZINE FAIR !!

Yesterday was the ZINE FAIR as part of Birmingham Zine Festival.

Aside from the honor of doing the artwork for this years festival*, I had a stall selling my zines (of course...) as well as my usual supply of deadstock trading cards (available online as always!) and also as a special event I had a clear out of some of my stationary and I was selling bargain unused notebooks, picture sellotape, rubber stamps, an old dymo label maker and all kinds other fun stuff from Japan and elsewhere that has been sitting doing nothing for 2 ...5...10 years..

Thanks to anyone who came along and stopped by to say hello, it was great to see you all ! My apologies if my conversational skills were below par, I think the week of sleep deprivation was looming heavy and my brain knew it didn't have much further to go before passing out.

I had a great day and was especially lucky to land myself next to two especially awesome people in the form of fellow wrestling fan and all round super good guy Tom J Hughes and lovely Harriet (of rad girl skater "Brash" fame). I was pretty happy that I got to talk wrestling A LOT but somehow I barely got to catch up with Harriet?! (I'm sorry! I feel like I spoke more with your mom than with you - but let me know if you're back in town!!). Speaking of wrestling and zines... I wholeheartedly recommend Tom's latest zine endeavor "The Shooting Star Press" with free commemorative Macho Man Randy Savage Poster!!

I also continue to be really horrific in my skills of looking at other people's stalls and making small talk but I did actually make it as far as walking around the entire room this year... and I had some kind of social breakthrough where I realised I do actually know more than 5 people in Birmingham. WHO KNEW?!

Birmingham Zine Festival is organised by a gang of good guys but special mentions of time effort and stress input go to Andrew Owen Johnston and the every lovely Lizz Lunney (who bought me a surprise chocolate waffle to my work today and I am eternally grateful <3)

*Whilst i'm gloating about my BZF accomplishments let me also tell you that I made the bunting in those photos too.
